I watched Enemy for probably the third time since it came out. Every time I see this strange, unique film I learn something new about the story. It’s a great, still mostly undiscovered gem. 🎥🍿

I watched This Is Where I Leave You yesterday in preparation for recording a podcast about it tonight. The movie was certainly fine and told its story. The only thing holding it up was the strength of the acting. 🎥🍿

I had a great time watching Bella with a good friend of mine. That was a fine movie with a pacing and style you don’t usually see in movies these days. Definitely worth a watch. 🎥

Considering how wonderful Unbreakable and Split were, it was disappointing to see how underwhelming Glass was. There was such potential for a great superhero story in that film. It really did not live up to that promise. 🎥🍿

I thought Birds of Prey was a fun one to watch. Better than people are giving it credit for. Rosie Perez was fantastic. I really want to see a complete movie with Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Huntress character now. 🎥🍿

The Lighthouse was just… Wow. That film was something else. Beautifully filmed, chock-full of symbolism, and always unsettling. It’s rare that you get to witness a descent into madness depicted so well in film. 🎥🍿

I can’t think of another person who deserved the cinematography Oscar more than Roger Deakins. I’m so happy he’s finally receiving the Academy Award-winning recognition he should have been getting for a long time. 🎥🍿

Here’s hoping for another Roger Deakins win at the Oscars later this evening. Admittedly, I haven’t seen all the other cinematography nominations, but come on. 1917 was a gorgeous technical marvel. 🎥🍿

I watched Don’t Breathe earlier this week. That one was a fun and efficient thriller. The camera and sound design work was really top notch. They helped turn it into a really tense movie that’s worth giving a shot. 🎥🍿

I just had a good time recording a podcast with a friend about the movie I watched a couple days ago, BlacKkKlansman. The recording went well, but man that movie is still heavy. And I think I need new headphones. Mine give me headache. 🎥🎙

I also finished watching BlacKkKlansman a little bit ago. What a crazy powerful and upsetting film. It makes me sad that we haven’t taken bigger steps away from that terrible past. 🎥🍿

I finished watching Long Shot this morning. That was a fun movie. I’m not surprised it didn’t win any major awards, but it was a well-made crowd pleaser. Or Sean pleaser, in this case. 🎥🍿

A Simple Favor was a fun movie while watching it, but I imagine it’ll be completely forgettable for me. I did like that Paul Feig directed it. It would be great to see him do more movies like this one. 🎥🍿

Much like his previous film, Beginners, Mike Mills’s 20th Century Women was captivating, beautiful, and heartbreaking. Every film he’s made feels completely essential for me. I’m in love with his work (and his soundtracks ain’t half bad, either). 🎥🍿

Parasite. Wow. I don’t know what more to say about this fascinating and captivating social satire. It was marvelous and deserves every accolade it gets. 🎥

It’s not often that a movie is as affecting, well-made, and grimly beautiful as 1917. This was both a challenge and a complete pleasure to see. Roger Deakins needs to win another Oscar for this one. 🎥

The Farewell was an absolutely wonderful movie. There was so much heart put into it. 🎥

But really, though, why in the world wasn’t Awkwafina nominated for an Oscar?

Similarly, The Report was gripping, but the antagonists were really upsetting. What is it about government that attracts some of the worst this world has to offer? 🎥

So far, Marriage Story and Ad Astra have been, just, [fingertips kiss]. 🎥

After hearing Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier talk about 2019’s movies on their most recent SModcast, I decided that I wasn’t watching enough movies. I’ve now seen about five in the last week. 2020’s gonna be fun. 🎥
